Melbourne based and globally-infused, LAKITA is a hypnotic performance artist celebrated for her unique style: an ever-evolving modern interpretation of Bellydance.
Fusing this timeless artform with contemporary music, movement and fashion, LAKITA has created an evocative alchemy between ancient traditions and cutting-edge aesthetics. Between electrifying audiences and curating multidisciplinary events and sensory experiences, LAKITA leads studio classes with a focus on educating and enticing women to a newfound empowerment, beauty and confidence.
LAKITA began training in classical ballet at the age of 3, which would prove to be the beginning of everlasting love with movement and music. At age 17, LAKITA undertook a deep intensive journey into Contemporary Dance and Ballet Studies in a full-time program at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. In her early twenties, she embarked on a new exploration into theatre, acting and a diverse scope of art forms from across the globe. It was during her first Belly Dance class in 2009 that LAKITA knew she had found her heart and soul. Soon she would be charmed by fusion bellydance and surrender to living and breathing its study. Since then, she has completed Initiation and Cultivation in Rachel Brice’s 8 Elements program in Portland and travels regularly to study with the likes of Zoe Jakes (Beats Antique) and Kami Liddle. LAKITA’S last few years have been focused on working with the Australian dance scene through workshops, intensives and directing stage productions.
